Sound Artists and DJ's

There are quite a few electronic musicians, DJ's and sound artists in the area.

One such artist is RADIO SCOTVOID (RSVP). You can see him at Gulu-Gulu Salem the 1st Friday of each month (this blogger is there the 2nd Friday). Also check out Noel Snow and Machine 475!

Thanks to a Facebook friend, I found this site, which can be quite useful, not to mention literal, in putting local artists on the map.

Check out and click around the 'board.'

You can submit your own work by signing up at SoundCloud.

Let's put the North Shore (not Boston) on the same level as Cologne, Montreal and Brooklyn by uploading tracks from our respective North Shore cities and towns. My students would say that's "Forcing it." So what.

There's been a lot of talk about how to create a new model for the music industry, now that the digital genie's long flown from the bottle. I know that there are other sites out there, such as Jamglue, with their unique "Remixing for the masses." There's also the popular and well-established site,, which combines music sharing with social networking. (See the player embedded down in this blog.)

By the way, my only lament about the digital democratization of music is the huge hit production values and sound quality have taken from lossy compression. You have to slap on a real record and listen through some respectable hi-fi equipment every so often to cure digititus and to remember how things are supposed to sound.

Can I Clone Myself?

There are two events on Thursday, November 12th, that I'd really like to attend.

One is this film screening at RAW.

The other is a meeting at LynnArts regarding a THREE STORY mural to go on the blank side of 25 Exchange St, where the seasonal Farmer's Markets are held. I think this will be a great addition to Central Square and people are welcome to share ideas in the Time Warner Gallery at 7pm.

This is just a friendly reminder to vote Tuesday, November 3rd. If you feel that you don't have enough information, this blog contains links to a number of sources, including my own, LynnHappens.

Besides the two local papers and LH, take a look at what the bloggers in the links to your left have to say, and then make your own decision based on as much information as you can gather.

To vote without knowledge is to gamble with our future, but voting with knowledge empowers us to influence our future.

Happy Voting Day!
