This year's Third Thursday schedule is now online at thirdthursdays.com under "Events" in the top menu.
They're great for bringing people into DTL and showing off what we have. I hold out hope that Turbine will open soon and other stores will follow. It would be cool to combine these events with a sidewalk sale, one day.
I never mind parking about half a block away to have the street blocked in front my building. I wish they'd do it more often. I also wish they'd run a little later for those of us who commute or work a little late. But, there's always the possibility for drinks afterwards with neighbors at Tatiana's, Blue Ox, or Turbine (when it opens). The Downtown Lynn Neighborhood Assocation (DTLna) also has in mind a few Third Thursday "Afterparty" events to keep the energy going. Stay tuned for updates.

Three Committees
I managed to record three Committees prior to City Council last night. Some say this is where the "Real business" gets done. Because only the most recent upload appears to your left, I'm going to post them here:
Ordinance Committee
Licensing
Ways & Means
The City Council meeting will post sometime tonight. It's longer than usual and takes more time to process and upload. Comcast is the Slowskis.
It's of no major importance, but for some reason MPEG Streamclip is forcing 4:3 regardless of what settings I choose.

Ordinance Committee tonight, 6:30pm
I usually don't post Committee and Council meeting times, just the City Council videos after the fact. To see why this Ordinance Committee meeting is of particular importance this evening, follow this link to the Item.
The bell just rang and my students are making their way to class, so there is no time to post my own opinion. I just want to point out that neither the City's web site nor the article in the Item mention the time and place of the meeting!

July 4th is on!
With some slight modifications and shift in location we can have our party downtown with fewer expenses and potential issues. There are two sites we're looking into, so more information will come forth next week!

DTLna meeting this Thursday
The Downtown Lynn Neighborhood Association is meeting this Thursday, 7:30pm at Tatiana's Restaurant, 70 Market St., Lynn.
One of the items on our agenda is a Saturday, July 4th party in Central Square. with food vendors, live entertainment and more. It's scheduled for the daytime so that people can go to fireworks or other events that night. (Lynn and Swampscott's fireworks will be held on the 3rd).
The City Clerk's Office, Councilor Paula Mackin and the Mayor's Office along with other Councilors and officials have been extremely helpful and supportive. Yet, there may still be a snag.
Most "Block parties" occur on streets that are not main thoroughfares. Also, most are limited to people who live in the immediate area or just the block itself. Ours, by design and because of where we're located, will be a very public event. That isn't the snag. The snag is that we really should have officers working detail when Central Square is closed and it will be twice as expensive on July 4th.
While I love all the events already held in Central Square, such as 3rd Thursdays and the Arts Festival, I would like have something along those lines that draws more DTL residents. The best way to do that is to plan something, ourselves. That's why I'm hoping that if we do have to drop the event on the 4th, we schedule a Central Square event for another weekend. It's going to be big effort, either way, so please join us at Tatiana's this Thursday and get involved!
