When musician Willie Alexander, who’s been called the godfather of Boston punk, was growing up on Washington Square in Gloucester, his father preached the gospel in the heart of the city, in a sumptuous Gothic-styled Baptist church that no longer stands, a place and time that lingers now only in Alexander’s memory. The year the Alexanders relocated out of Gloucester, first to Providence and then Newtonville, Vincent Ferrini, a poet from Lynn who was then working at the General Electric aviation plant, was moving his family in." more...
